ABET’s New Accreditation Criteria for Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering: A Summary [Industry Activities]

For the first time in 2024–2025, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) has added program criteria for robotics and mechatronics engineering degree programs. This article begins with a brief overview of the accreditation landscape prior to 2024, discusses the motivation and impact of the new criteria, and presents a set of practical considerations for the 50-plus degree programs subject to the new criteria.
